A senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) figure, Eddy Olafeso, has accused opponents of the party’s national convention of trying to “establish a one-party state” after a court order halted the meeting scheduled for 15–16 November in Ibadan.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, Olafeso described the Federal High Court injunction as “the climax of judicial rascality”, and said the restraining order “did not come as a shock to us.” He warned that a group was intent on destroying the party but insisted the PDP would resist those moves.
The Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday granted an interim order restraining the PDP from holding its national convention the action that prompted Olafeso’s remarks. The ruling stemmed from litigation challenging aspects of the convention arrangements.
Olafeso told viewers the party would not be deterred by the court order and expressed confidence that the convention could still hold, despite the legal setback. He also accused unnamed actors of pursuing ulterior motives aimed at weakening the opposition ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.
