Some members of the Plateau State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday staged a protest against the possible defection of Governor Caleb Mutfwang from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The aggrieved members staged the protest during a reception in Jos to welcome defectors from opposition political parties, carrying placards with inscriptions that said Governor Mutfwang is not welcome in the party.
Reacting, the North Central APC Forum, in a statement issued by its Chairman, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, on Sunday morning in Abuja, condemned the protest.
The Forum, which has been at the forefront of a campaign to convince Governor Mutfwang to defect to the party, said it was undemocratic to stop anybody, including a governor, from joining any political party of their choice.
They stated that Governor Mutfwang joining the party ahead of the 2027 general elections was in the best interest of the party and urged President Bola Tinubu to call the party leaders working against the move to order.
The Forum equally threatened to report those blocking Governor Mutfwang’s coming to the APC to President Tinubu.
