The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday commenced its 2025 National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State — but the absence of two key governors, Ademola Adeleke of Osun and Agbu Kefas of Taraba, drew immediate attention across political circles.

The convention, held at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, brings together party leaders, elected officials, delegates, and stakeholders from all states to deliberate on key internal reforms, ratify policy directions, and strengthen the party’s national structure ahead of future elections.

Party officials described the gathering as a critical moment for unifying members and repositioning the PDP as a formidable opposition force. The National Chairman, senior party chieftains, and several governors were in attendance, reaffirming their commitment to internal democracy and party cohesion.

However, the notable absence of Governors Adeleke and Kefas sparked speculation, with party insiders offering no immediate explanation. Delegates nonetheless proceeded with scheduled activities, including committee reports, organisational reviews, and discussions on strategies for revitalising the party nationwide.

The convention is expected to culminate in key resolutions aimed at reinforcing unity, expanding grassroots engagement, and strengthening the PDP’s role in Nigeria’s democratic landscape.
