The Bala Wunti Movement 2027 has dismissed reports that Dr Bala Maijama’a Wunti will withdraw from the Bauchi State governorship race, insisting the former NNPCL upstream investment officer remains firmly in contention for the 2027 election.
Addressing journalists, the movement’s state coordinator, Yahaya Miya, described the stories as the work of “panicking individuals” unsettled by Wunti’s rising popularity across the state. “The rumours do not come as a surprise. They are only expressing their fears over the wide acceptance and rising popularity of Dr Bala Maijama’a Wunti,” he said.
Miya told reporters that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has not issued any official guidelines or deadlines that would preclude Wunti from declaring his interest. “Let me assure you and the general public that there is no going back Insha Allah, Dr Bala will contest the seat of the Governorship of Bauchi State come 2027 under the APC,” he affirmed.
The coordinator further indicated that a formal declaration will be made “in no distant future” and praised supporters for their continued mobilisation and loyalty. He urged party members to preserve unity and avoid rancour even where allegiances differ. “Maintain unity and avoid political rancour,” he advised, commending journalists for “balanced and positive reportage.”
Political activity around Wunti has been visible for months, with local groups and youth coalitions publicly backing his potential candidacy and calling on party elders to persuade him to run. While supporters frame Wunti as a technocrat with grassroots appeal, observers note that any bid will face the usual tests of party zoning, internal primaries and coalition-building within APC ranks.
Analysts say the movement’s statement aims both to reassure followers and to manage the narrative as the 2027 contest takes shape. “Clarifications of this kind can help stem damaging speculation, but they also raise expectations the challenge now is turning support into formal structures and party endorsements,” one commentator observed.
The Bala Wunti Movement’s press engagement comes amid a broader scramble in Bauchi politics as stakeholders position themselves well ahead of 2027. No formal declaration date for Wunti has been announced.
