Nigeria’s Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, has departed Abuja for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 2026 African Union (AU) Summit.
The summit, under the theme “Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063,” aims to reinforce continental commitments to sustainable water management and improved sanitation infrastructure.
Delegates are expected to focus on strategies that advance the AU’s long-term development blueprint, Agenda 2063, which prioritises sustainable resource management, public health, and regional collaboration to address Africa’s water and sanitation challenges.
Nigeria’s participation underscores the country’s commitment to the AU’s sustainability agenda and its broader role in continental development initiatives.
