Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu met on Thursday with Governor AbdulRahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State in Abuja to discuss the federal response to a devastating terror attack that has shaken parts of the country’s North-Central region.

The closed-door meeting at the State House came in the aftermath of a brutal assault on remote communities in Kaiama Local Government Area, including Woro village, where suspected jihadist fighters killed scores of civilians. Authorities and international bodies place the death toll at more than 160 people, making it one of the deadliest attacks this year in Nigeria.

President Tinubu condemned the killings, describing the violence as both “cowardly” and “beastly,” and reiterated the federal government’s determination to protect citizens and uphold national unity.

In response to the violence, the president has ordered the deployment of an army battalion to the affected area and authorised the creation of a new military initiative dubbed Operation Savannah Shield, designed to suppress extremist groups and secure vulnerable communities.

After briefing Tinubu on the situation, Governor Abdulrazaq thanked the president for the swift federal action and expressed confidence that the enhanced security presence would help restore calm.

The meeting also underscored broader security concerns in Nigeria, where armed groups have expanded operations beyond traditional strongholds, prompting national and international calls for coordinated counter-terrorism efforts.

President Tinubu is expected to continue consultations with security chiefs and regional leaders as authorities seek to prevent further attacks and address long-standing instability in affected regions.
