The Federal Government has pushed back against allegations of concealed expenditure and diversion of federation revenues, saying such claims distort the findings of the latest Nigeria Development Update by the World Bank.

In a statement, authorities said the report has been “mischaracterised” in public discourse, insisting it does not support assertions of hidden spending or revenue misappropriation. Officials maintained that the government’s fiscal operations remain transparent and in line with established procedures.

The clarification comes amid growing scrutiny of public finances, with critics citing sections of the report to question revenue management. However, the government argued that those interpretations are selective and misleading, urging stakeholders to rely on the full context of the World Bank assessment.

The Nigeria Development Update is a periodic review of the country’s economic performance and policy direction, often used by policymakers and analysts to gauge fiscal trends and reforms.
