Nigeria Pays 85 Billion Naira and $54 Million to ECOWAS

During the 66th Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), President of the ECOWAS Commission, Omar Touray, revealed that Nigeria has paid a total of 85 billion naira and $54 million as community levy to the organization.

This payment covers 100 percent of the 2023 levy and the level of 2024 up to July 2024. The amount was transferred on Friday, December 13, 2024, marking a significant milestone in Nigeria’s commitment to the ECOWAS community.

Touray commended Nigeria for its leadership and dedication to the region, highlighting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s role in ensuring the full payment of the levy. He expressed gratitude for Nigeria’s confidence in the ECOWAS and its mission under his leadership.

In response, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of unity among ECOWAS member states in facing various challenges, including crisis, violent extremism, and environmental issues. He reiterated the shared vision of creating a strong and unified community for all citizens in the region.

The payment from Nigeria exemplifies a strong commitment to the ECOWAS community and sets a positive example for other member states to fulfill their levy remittances in a timely manner.
