Nigeria’s African Democratic Congress (ADC) has declared that removing President Bola Tinubu from office in the 2027 general election is the only way to “rescue” the country from its current challenges.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the opposition party accused the Tinubu administration of presiding over worsening economic hardship, insecurity and declining public trust, arguing that a change in leadership is essential to reverse the trend.
According to the ADC, rising inflation, a weakening naira and the high cost of living have placed unprecedented pressure on ordinary Nigerians, while insecurity continues to threaten lives and livelihoods across several regions of the country.
“Getting Tinubu out of power is the only way to rescue Nigeria,” the party said, calling on Nigerians to unite behind what it described as a credible alternative in 2027.
The party urged voters to look beyond party loyalty and focus on leadership it says can deliver economic stability, social justice and national cohesion. It also pledged to present policies centred on inclusive growth, security sector reform and anti-corruption.
President Tinubu, who took office in May 2023, has repeatedly defended his administration’s economic reforms, saying tough decisions were necessary to stabilise Africa’s largest economy in the long term. The government maintains that recent policies, including fuel subsidy removal and foreign exchange reforms, will yield positive results over time.
As Nigeria moves closer to the next election cycle, political rhetoric is expected to intensify, with opposition parties positioning themselves against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) amid widespread public debate over governance and economic direction.
