Senator Ned Nwoko has pushed back against fresh allegations from his estranged wife, Regina Daniels, that he married her when she was only 17. He described the claim as “false, misleading, and malicious.”
In a statement posted across his social media pages on Thursday, the Delta North senator said the actress told him she was 21 when they first met, and even presented her INEC voter’s card as proof.
“It has come to my notice that Regina is circulating false claims that I married her at 17. These claims are completely untrue,” he wrote.
Nwoko said Regina’s voter’s card, which he said she gave him during their first meeting, showed her date of birth as October 10, 1998.
“For clarity, during our first meeting, she told me she was 21 years old and showed me her voter’s card. It clearly states she was born in 1998. I told her I would keep the document, and I have kept it since that day,” he said.
He added that they got married six years ago, insisting that “by every verifiable record, Regina is 27 years old today.”
According to him, the narrative that he married a minor was being pushed to damage his image as their marital crisis continues to deepen.
The senator also linked her recent accusations to what he described as her “current mental state,” claiming she started but abandoned rehabilitation for drug addiction.
“The facts are verifiable and indisputable. I urge the public to treat all her claims with caution, especially considering her current mental condition,” he added.
Their public fallout worsened after Regina, in an earlier statement, admitted to using illicit substances and accused Nwoko of introducing her to drugs for sexual reasons. Nwoko denied this, blaming her brother, Sammy, for exposing her to drugs and resisting attempts to rehabilitate her.
The crisis escalated following Sammy’s arrest in Lagos, his transfer to Abuja, arraignment, and subsequent remand pending bail.
Amid the chaos, Regina shared that her previously estranged parents recently reconciled, attributing it to the family pressures surrounding her brother’s arrest.
