The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Olumide Osigwe, has clarified comments attributed to him suggesting that judges and lawyers are the “worst bribe takers” in the country.
In a statement released on Thursday, Osigwe denied ever making such remarks, describing the reports as “misleading and taken out of context.” He emphasised the NBA’s ongoing commitment to promoting integrity, accountability, and professionalism within the legal sector.
The clarification comes amid growing public concern over allegations of corruption within Nigeria’s judiciary and legal profession. Osigwe reiterated that the association remains committed to supporting judicial reforms and strengthening ethical standards across the profession.
“We remain dedicated to advocating for transparency and justice, and we reject any narrative that misrepresents our stance or maligns the character of legal practitioners,” the NBA president said.
The NBA continues to urge the media and public to verify statements before reporting, highlighting the potential damage of misinformation on public trust in the legal system.
