The Nigerian Navy has intercepted 500 litres of products suspected to be illegally sourced Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), alongside substances suspected to be cannabis, in Lagos State.
The seizure was made by personnel of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Lekki during an operation in Folu Community, Ibeju-Lekki, on Monday, 24 August.
According to the Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, the operation was part of the Navy’s ongoing efforts to curb the illegal trade and storage of petroleum products, as well as the proliferation of illicit drugs within its area of operations. (Daily Post)
Captain Folorunsho said the suspects fled the location before they could be apprehended.
He added that the recovered products and suspected cannabis were secured and transported to the base for further investigation and appropriate action in accordance with established procedures.
The Navy said the operation demonstrated its continued commitment to disrupting activities capable of undermining Nigeria’s economic interests, public safety and national security.
The latest seizure also forms part of wider security operations targeting the illegal movement and storage of petroleum products and other illicit activities along Nigeria’s waterways and coastal communities.
Authorities are expected to continue investigations into the origin of the seized products and substances, while efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible remain ongoing.
