Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has lauded the Directorate of State Services (DSS) for its swift arrest of five suspects in connection with the kidnapping and murder of a one-year-old girl in Gwarzo Local Government Area.
A statement released by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, on Thursday, detailed the suspects’ alleged abduction of Sakina Mamuda, their demand for ransom, and the subsequent discovery of her body in an abandoned well.
The arrested individuals – Zailani Rabiu, Hafizu Yusuf, Abubakar Abdulkareem, Umar Lawan, and Amadu Salisu – are all reportedly from the same community as the victim. They are currently under investigation for criminal conspiracy, kidnapping, and homicide.
Speaking at a press briefing, the State Attorney General, Haruna Dederi, reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring justice in the case. Governor Yusuf expressed his deep sorrow and commended the DSS and other security agencies for their prompt action.
He further pledged to bolster the state’s security infrastructure through increased investment in intelligence, logistics, and collaboration among agencies. “This senseless tragedy has shaken us to the core,” the Governor stated. “I commend the DSS for acting swiftly and decisively. We will continue to prioritise the safety of our people and ensure that those who threaten our peace are brought to justice.”
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation, with calls for swift prosecution and the full application of the law.
