The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory Command, has recently arrested eight individuals suspected of vandalizing public infrastructure across various parts of Abuja.
The arrests were made as part of a strategic operation aimed at combating vandalism within the FCT.
According to Commandant Olusola Odumosu, these suspects were apprehended through the collaborative efforts of NSCDC’s covert operatives and the Critical National Assets and Infrastructure Tactical Team, who have been closely monitoring the capital city.
The first group of four suspects was apprehended at Idu Layout CITEC on Saturday night, where they were found in possession of vandalized solar panel poles. These suspects hail from different states across the country.
Another four suspects were arrested along the Bannex-Gishiri axis the following day, while attempting to transport vandalized street light poles. These suspects also come from various states in Nigeria.
Various items including street light poles, solar panel poles, and iron rods were recovered from the suspects.
Odumosu expressed concern over the increasing damage to public infrastructure and reiterated the NSCDC’s commitment to addressing this issue. He warned vandals to stay away from the FCT and stated that those caught will face legal consequences once the investigation is complete.
The commandant emphasized that efforts to safeguard public infrastructure will be intensified to ensure the safety and security of the FCT.
