The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has clarified that the landing of one of its C-130 transport aircraft in Burkina Faso was purely a precautionary measure undertaken in full compliance with international aviation procedures.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Air Force explained that the crew executed the landing after observing necessary safety considerations during a routine mission. NAF stressed that the aircraft followed all required diplomatic and operational protocols before diverting to the Burkinabe airport.
According to the statement, the diversion was prompted by technical and environmental assessments made mid-flight, which required the crew to prioritise safety in line with global military aviation standards.
“The precautionary landing was a standard safety procedure and not an emergency or unauthorised action,” NAF stated, adding that the aircraft and crew remained in good condition throughout the operation.
The Air Force further dismissed speculations circulating on social media concerning the circumstances of the landing, insisting that no security breach or distress situation occurred. It urged the public to rely on verified information from official channels rather than unsubstantiated online reports.
NAF also emphasised its commitment to maintaining the highest levels of professionalism and ensuring the safety of its personnel and assets while conducting missions within and outside Nigeria’s borders.
The aircraft has since resumed its scheduled operation, the statement added.
