A decomposed body has been discovered on Kandahar Hill, opposite Dutse General Hospital in Jigawa State.
Police identified the deceased as 37-year-old Ado Barau, popularly known as Jojo, from Kasarau Fagoji in Dutse metropolis. According to police spokesperson SP Shi’isu Adam, Barau had lived with mental illness for years.
The remains were found on 16 September at about 3:45 p.m. Officers from Dutse Division responded promptly, but due to the advanced state of decay and overpowering odour, the body was interred at the site with assistance from the local government welfare department. The burial was conducted in the presence of Barau’s family, traditional leaders, security agencies, and community members.
Barau’s elder brother, Rabiu Shehu, confirmed his brother’s mental condition and dismissed rumours that body parts were missing.
Police urged the public to disregard fake reports and remain calm, stressing their commitment to professionalism and public safety.
Earlier speculation had suggested that the deceased’s eyes were removed, with some linking it to political tensions. The police have since firmly debunked the claims.
The case adds to a series of unsettling discoveries reported in different parts of the country.
