Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has revealed that he is under growing pressure from political allies and influential figures to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking during a media chat in Jos, the governor acknowledged that several political stakeholders have approached him, urging him to align with the APC as part of a broader realignment ahead of future elections.
However, Governor Mutfwang maintained that his primary focus remains on delivering good governance and fostering unity in Plateau State, rather than playing to the gallery of partisan politics.
“Yes, I have been approached by some people asking me to consider joining the APC,” he said. “But for me, politics should be about service, not self-interest. I am committed to the mandate given to me by the people under the PDP.”
Observers note that the overtures come amid rising speculation about political reorganisation across Nigeria, with several governors and prominent politicians rumoured to be considering party switches in preparation for 2027.
Political analysts believe that Mutfwang’s decision, whatever it turns out to be, could significantly influence Plateau’s political landscape, given his popularity and growing national profile.
For now, the governor insists he remains focused on stabilising the state, rebuilding trust among diverse communities, and advancing development projects across Plateau.
