MTN Nigeria has announced a temporary network service disruption scheduled for Saturday, August 24, 2025, affecting subscribers in parts of Adamawa, Borno, and Kano states. The disruption will impact 101 sites across 15 Local Government Areas (LGAs) as the company undertakes essential maintenance to replace a damaged fiber route.
The scheduled maintenance, running from 6:00 AM to 8:00 AM, will involve cutting over traffic to a newly installed fiber infrastructure along the AFCOT–Bawo Village route in Adamawa State. MTN warned that subscribers using 2G, 3G, and 4G, including 10 enterprise customers, may experience intermittent connectivity during this window.
“Due to the linear and unprotected nature of the route, services will be interrupted during the maintenance window. The work is scheduled during daylight hours for security reasons,” MTN stated.
Affected LGAs include Girei, Song, Mubi North, Hong, Gombi, Fufore, Mubi South, Madagali, Michika, Maiha, Chibok, and Yola North in Adamawa; Askira/UBA and Shani in Borno; and Nasarawa in Kano.
This incident highlights the ongoing challenge of fiber cuts that cost telecom operators billions in repairs annually. Airtel’s Director of Corporate Communications, Femi Adeniran, recently revealed that the company records an average of 43 fiber cuts daily, caused mainly by construction activities, vandalism, and poor coordination.
“These interruptions inconvenience consumers, hinder businesses, disrupt government operations, and threaten public safety,” Adeniran explained.
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) reports an alarming average of 1,100 fiber cuts weekly nationwide, prompting increased enforcement and security collaborations to protect critical telecom infrastructure designated as national security assets by President Bola Tinubu.
MTN reassured customers that the upgrade aims to enhance network stability and service quality in the affected regions while apologising for the inconvenience.
