Public affairs commentator Mahdi Shehu has sharply criticised Nigerian politicians for their persistent reliance on money, deception, and intimidation to grasp political power.
Speaking on social media last Sunday, Shehu said, “Most politicians in Nigeria misdirect themselves that money can buy them popularity which they know themselves they do not have.” He cautioned that such tactics have their limits and often backfire.
Shehu highlighted politicians’ efforts to hide their criminal histories, stating, “It is just a matter of time when the cat always comes out of the bag unannounced.”

He warned those who use threats and violence politically, “Those who they threaten today will be their tormentors tomorrow. And tomorrow is just hours away.”
Mocking their misplaced confidence, Shehu likened the politicians’ blind beliefs to the absurd notion that eating blueberries would actually turn them blue, exposing what he described as their “open ignorance.”
Shehu’s remarks come amid frustration over Nigeria’s political environment, where wealth and forceful tactics often overshadow merit and genuine public support. His message calls for accountability and a shift towards democratic principles rather than fear and financial influence.
