Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, has described the successful rescue of pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State as a demonstration of President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to safeguarding the lives of citizens and securing learning environments across the country.

Speaking on Saturday, Alausa said the rescue operation underscores the federal government’s resolve to tackle insecurity, particularly attacks targeting schools, which have continued to threaten access to education in parts of the country.

“The successful rescue of the abducted pupils and teachers reflects President Bola Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to protecting the lives of Nigerians and ensuring that schools remain safe spaces for teaching and learning,” the minister said.

He commended the security agencies for their swift intervention, describing the outcome as a testament to improved coordination among security institutions in responding to emergencies.

The minister reaffirmed the government’s determination to strengthen security around educational institutions nationwide, stressing that no child or teacher should have to live in fear while pursuing education.

The abduction in Oriire Local Government Area had sparked widespread concern among parents and residents, with renewed calls for stronger measures to protect schools from criminal attacks. The successful rescue is expected to bring relief to affected families while reinforcing the government’s pledge to prioritise the safety of learners and educators across Nigeria.
