The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on the Federal Government to replicate the urgency, coordination and operational commitment that led to the successful rescue of abducted pupils and teachers in Oyo State for victims who remain in captivity in Borno and Kwara states.
In a statement, the opposition party commended security agencies for the swift intervention that secured the freedom of the Oyo victims but stressed that every Nigerian life deserves the same level of protection and attention, irrespective of where an abduction occurs.
The ADC expressed concern that while some kidnapping incidents receive immediate and coordinated security responses, others appear to linger without the same level of urgency, creating the impression of unequal treatment in the country’s fight against insecurity.
According to the party, rescue operations should be guided solely by the constitutional responsibility of the state to protect the lives and welfare of all citizens, rather than by geography, public attention or political considerations.
The party specifically urged the Federal Government and security agencies to intensify efforts towards securing the immediate release of those still being held captive in Borno and Kwara states, insisting that families of the victims deserve the same hope and decisive action witnessed in Oyo State.
“The success recorded in Oyo demonstrates that when there is determination, coordination and the necessary deployment of security resources, positive outcomes are achievable. Such commitment must become the national standard, not an isolated response,” the statement said.
The ADC further maintained that restoring public confidence in Nigeria’s security architecture requires consistency in responding to security threats across all parts of the country, adding that no Nigerian should feel abandoned because of where they reside.
The party called on the Federal Government to ensure that ongoing rescue efforts are intensified until every abducted victim regains freedom, while reaffirming that the protection of lives remains the foremost responsibility of government.
It also appealed to security agencies to sustain intelligence-driven operations against criminal networks responsible for kidnappings, noting that a comprehensive and impartial approach is essential to addressing the country’s worsening security challenges.
