ABUJA — Four police officers are locked up in military custody after they were caught giving VIP escorts in defiance of President Bola Tinubu’s ban.

ASP Musa Waziri, Inspector Jeremiah Achimogu, Inspector Awipi Terry and Inspector Hassan Baba were picked up on 17 December. Security sources say the quartet tried to dodge detection by dressing in uniforms that looked like those of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

Security analyst Zagazola Makama first broke the news of the arrests, which form part of a wider drive to stop police officers being hired out as private bodyguards. Tinubu has ordered all police personnel pulled from such duties so they can focus on national internal-security work. The four officers now face disciplinary action.
