This action coincides with the company’s recent policy changes that allow users to claim LGBTQ+ individuals are “mentally ill.”
Messenger offers various themes to customize chat windows. While themes like “Minecraft” and “Love” remain, the previously available “trans” and “nonbinary” themes, featuring colors corresponding to pride flags, have been removed.
Meta did not provide an explanation for this change. The removal follows a shift towards more conservative policies at the company. Internal protests against these anti-LGBTQ+ changes are reportedly underway.
The company had previously announced and showcased the “trans” and “nonbinary” themes on its official blog to demonstrate support for these communities. However, these blog posts are now inaccessible.
