• Mandatory IREV Uploads Rejected
• Status Quo Maintained, allowing the INEC to dictate result transfer methods at its own pace.
The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday rejected an amendment to Clause 60(3) of the Electoral Amendment Bill that would have made the electronic transmission of polling‑unit results compulsory, opting to retain the existing Electoral Act wording that leaves the mode of transmission to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The proposed change would have required presiding officers to upload results from each polling unit to INEC’s IREV portal in real time immediately after completing Form EC&A — which must be signed and stamped by the presiding officer and countersigned by party agents. Lawmakers voted to keep the current provision that “the presiding officer shall transfer the results, including the total number of accredited voters and the results of the ballot, in a manner as prescribed by the Commission.”
