May Edochie, the estranged wife of Nollywood actor Yul Edochie, has filed a legal suit against Yinka Omolola Theisen, accusing her of defamation, cyberstalking, and cyberbullying. This action follows a series of damaging social media posts made by Yinka, who was previously involved with May’s brother-in-law.

The legal complaint, sent through May’s lawyers at Graylaw Partners, includes a cease-and-desist notice dated August 19, 2025. According to the notice, Yinka’s posts on social media were both “misleading and damaging,” describing May in a derogatory light and making unfounded claims that, the legal team argues, have caused significant harm to May’s personal and professional life.

“Ms. Theisen’s actions have gone beyond typical online disagreements, escalating into targeted harassment that was both malicious and harmful,” stated Graylaw Partners in the notice.

The legal team has demanded that Yinka retract all defamatory content, issue a public apology across her social media platforms, and pay ₦500 million in damages. They also claim that the posts have caused damage not only to May’s reputation but have led others to further spread false information, compounding the harm.

“The actions of Ms. Theisen have endangered our client’s dignity, safety, and mental well-being,” the law firm added.

This lawsuit shines a spotlight on the increasing prevalence of online harassment in Nigeria and the legal recourse available to individuals whose reputations are attacked on social media. May’s legal action is seen as a step towards holding individuals accountable for their actions in the digital sphere and setting a legal precedent for addressing cyberbullying.

As the case progresses, it also underscores the growing concern for online reputation management and the need for more stringent laws against digital defamation in Nigeria.
