Governor Seyi Makinde has cautioned against the weakening of opposition forces, urging political actors to prioritise national interest over partisan divisions.

Speaking at an ongoing summit of opposition political party leaders, Makinde stressed that a fragile opposition would have far-reaching consequences for the country’s democratic stability.

“If we allow the opposition to weaken, we will all bear the consequences,” he said, warning of the risks posed by political fragmentation.

The Oyo State governor framed the gathering not as a platform for division, but as an opportunity for reflection and responsible action. He called on stakeholders to adopt a more thoughtful and principled approach to politics.

“This is not a movement of fragmentation; it is a movement to think clearly, speak honestly, and act with a sense of responsibility that goes beyond party lines,” he added.

The summit brings together key opposition figures amid ongoing discussions about coalition-building and strategies to strengthen democratic institutions.
