Luis Díaz has officially left Liverpool to join German giants Bayern Munich in one of the summer’s biggest transfer moves.

The Colombian forward sealed the switch on Wednesday for a reported €75 million fee, making him the third most expensive player in Bayern’s history. He signed a contract that runs until 2029.

“Luis Díaz is one of the top left-wingers in the Premier League,” said Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen. “He’s a proven winner, and he brings strong character and experience from a top club like Liverpool.”

The 28-year-old winger, who won the Premier League, FA Cup, and League Cup at Anfield, said he was “very happy” to join the German champions.

“It means a lot to me to be part of FC Bayern,” said Díaz. “They’re one of the biggest clubs in the world. My goal is to win every possible title and give everything for the team.”

On social media, Díaz thanked Liverpool fans and said he was leaving “proud of everything we achieved together”.

Last season, Díaz scored 17 goals and provided eight assists in 50 appearances across all competitions, helping Liverpool secure their 20th English league title. He finished as the club’s second top scorer behind Mohamed Salah.

He joined Liverpool from Porto in January 2022 and scored 13 of his 17 goals last season in the Premier League.

Díaz did not feature in Liverpool’s recent 4-2 loss to AC Milan in Hong Kong, as talks over his move to Germany reached the final stage.

Bayern’s need for reinforcements grew after injuries ruled out Jamal Musiala and veteran Thomas Müller left the club. Leroy Sané’s move to Galatasaray further thinned their attacking options.

Díaz is expected to begin training with his new teammates under coach Vincent Kompany immediately and could feature in Saturday’s friendly against Lyon.

His €75 million transfer fee sits behind only Harry Kane (€95m) and Lucas Hernandez (€80m) in Bayern’s transfer records.

Since making his international debut in 2018, Díaz has scored 18 goals in 64 appearances for Colombia.
