In an explosive security report obtained exclusively by OBSERVERS TIMES the Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed, has formally written to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, alleging a troubling link between the Senator representing Bauchi South, Shehu Buba Umar, and suspected bandits.

The leaked letter, which carries the official seal of the Bauchi State Government House, details how a suspected bandit and kidnapper was allegedly sponsored for the 2024 Muslim Pilgrimage (Hajj) through the Senator’s office.

The DSS Intervention
According to the document, the discovery was made during the 2024 Hajj operations when operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), Bauchi State Command, stormed the Bauchi State Muslims Pilgrims Welfare Board.

The DSS demanded the e-passports of two intending pilgrims Abubakar Idris and Zainab Aliyu Gado While Zainab Aliyu had already departed for the holy land, Abubakar Idris was intercepted, arrested, and is currently in DSS custody.

“Abubakar Idris was suspected of banditry and kidnapping activities in Zamfara State, and as far as we know, he is still with the DSS,” the Governor stated in the letter.

The most damning revelation in the letter is the alleged link to Senator Shehu Buba Umar. Governor Mohammed stated that records at the Pilgrims Board showed the suspects were registered through **Yahaya Ibrahim**, the Senior Legislative Aide to the Senator.

The Governor expressed deep concern over the security implications of a federal lawmaker’s office being used as a conduit for individuals with ties to violent crime.

“Your Excellency, this development is worrisome as it suggests the Senator’s complicity in supporting, enabling, and empowering bandits to cause mayhem and go unscathed,” the Governor wrote. “The Senator’s involvement calls for a thorough investigation, arrest, and prosecution of all those found to be involved.”

Governor Mohammed emphasized that the briefing was “imperative” due to the grave security implications. He urged President Tinubu to take decisive action to ensure that political offices are not used to shield or empower criminal elements terrorizing the North-West and North-East regions.

The letter, titled SECURITY REPORT ON SEN. SHEHU BUBA UMAR, SENATOR REPRESENTING BAUCHI SOUTH SENATORIAL DISTRICT,” further highlights the deepening friction between the Bauchi State Government and the federal lawmaker.

As of the time of this report, Senator Shehu Buba Umar has not issued a formal reaction to the allegations contained in the Governor’s petition to the President.
