LAGOS – Mojisola Meranda, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has dismissed rumors of her resignation. Reports of her stepping down circulated online, fueled by an unsigned circular dated February 17, 2025. However, Meranda’s Chief Press Secretary, Segun Ajiboye, confirmed that she remains in office. “I’m in the office. The Speaker is in the office. I don’t know where that is coming from,” Ajiboye told PUNCH.
The denial comes amidst an ongoing leadership crisis within the Assembly, following the removal of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa. Obasa, who was impeached while abroad, has filed a lawsuit challenging his removal. He is seeking expedited hearings and has named the Lagos State House of Assembly and Speaker Meranda as defendants. Obasa’s suit, filed through his legal team, argues the illegality of his impeachment and seeks several reliefs based on the Nigerian Constitution and the Assembly’s rules.
