AWKA, Anambra State – The Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Somtochukwu Nkem Udeze, has expressed outrage following the escape of two suspects arrested in connection with the murder of a state lawmaker. The escape has cast doubt on the police investigation, just weeks after the body of the lawmaker was discovered.
Justice Azuka, a Labour Party member, was kidnapped in Onitsha and his remains were found roughly 40 days later near the 2nd Niger Bridge. Police had previously announced the arrest of two individuals, but recently confirmed their escape while the suspects were assisting officers in an operation.
Speaker Udeze called the development “unfortunate,” stating that it “casts a shadow” on the police’s handling of the investigation. He has demanded the immediate recapture of the suspects and urged the Commissioner of Police to intensify efforts to bring them to justice. Udeze also called for the suspects’ names, addresses, and photographs to be released to the public to aid in their apprehension.
