Rabiu Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate, has welcomed the immediate past Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Gwarzo, following his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In a statement posted on his X account on Monday, Kwankwaso congratulated Gwarzo, describing the move as a significant gain for the party. The former deputy governor officially joined the opposition coalition in Kano State on Sunday.
“I heartily congratulate Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, the immediate past Deputy Governor of Kano State, on his decision to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC),” Kwankwaso said.
He added: “The grand reception held yesterday in Gwarzo Town has not only strengthened our ranks with his wealth of experience but has also injected fresh energy and renewed enthusiasm into the party. Welcome home, Your Excellency.”
The development comes shortly after Kwankwaso himself joined the ADC—a move that has triggered a wave of political realignments and defections from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
