Citing an escalating security crisis, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has issued an emergency directive ordering the immediate closure of all educational institutions across Kogi State. Effective Wednesday, February 4, 2026, all public and private schools are to commence a compulsory, indefinite mid-term break.

The National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) confirmed the directive in an urgent security bulletin signed by State Chairman, PST. Reuben Jimoh. The statement warned that the measure is a critical response to volatile security conditions.

“This is an emergency midterm break mandated by the Executive Governor,” Jimoh stated. “Due to the unpredictable nature of the current security situation, no resumption date has been set. Schools are strictly forbidden from announcing a return date until further notice.”

The state government has warned that any school found operating in defiance of this order will face immediate revocation of its operational license. Parents are advised to keep children indoors and await further security briefs from official government channels.
