Nigeria’s Aviation and Aerospace Development Minister, Festus Keyamo, has asked EgyptAir to stop deploying ageing aircraft on its routes to Nigeria.
Mr Keyamo made the call on Thursday during a bilateral meeting with his Egyptian counterpart, Sameh El-Hefny, on the sidelines of the ongoing El-Alamein International Airshow in Egypt.
The minister expressed concern over the use of older aircraft in Nigeria’s aviation market, stressing the need for airlines operating in the country to maintain high safety standards.
He urged EgyptAir to review its fleet deployment to Nigeria and discontinue the use of ageing aircraft, in line with the government’s efforts to strengthen safety and improve passenger confidence in the country’s aviation sector.
The meeting formed part of Nigeria and Egypt’s wider discussions on strengthening bilateral cooperation in aviation and aerospace development.
Mr Keyamo’s position comes amid growing attention to aircraft safety and fleet standards across Nigeria’s aviation industry, with the government seeking closer engagement with international airlines operating in the country.
