The Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Honourable Usman Zuru, has regained his freedom several days after being abducted by gunmen.
Zuru, who was kidnapped along the Zuru–Ribah road last week, was reportedly released late on Wednesday night after intense security operations and negotiation efforts by local authorities and community leaders.
Confirming his release, the Police Public Relations Officer for Kebbi State Command, SP Nafiu Abubakar, said the lawmaker had reunited safely with his family. He commended the combined efforts of security agencies and local vigilantes who worked tirelessly to ensure Zuru’s safe return.
Although details surrounding the conditions of his release remain unclear, sources suggest no ransom was paid. The police have, however, launched a manhunt for the assailants to bring them to justice.
Zuru’s abduction had sparked widespread concern among residents and political leaders across the state, with calls for enhanced security along major highways and rural communities in southern Kebbi.
The Deputy Speaker is expected to resume legislative duties after receiving medical evaluation and rest.
