A judge has rejected Shawn Corey Carter, known as Jay Z, in his bid to dismiss a lawsuit accusing him and Sean Combs, also known as Diddy, of raping a 13-year-old girl over 20 years ago.
The lawsuit, initially filed in October by a woman referred to as Jane Doe, alleges that Combs sexually assaulted her at a party after the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards. The complaint was later amended to include the claim that Jay-Z was also present and involved in the assault, marking him as the first celebrity linked to Diddy’s case.
Despite the denials from Jay-Z, his lawyer argued for the case’s dismissal based on the alleged inconsistencies in Doe’s accusations.
Represented by Houston-based attorney Tony Buzbee, Doe stated that she was drugged before the assault took place. Buzbee is also representing numerous other accusers of Combs.
The judge granted Doe’s request to remain anonymous during the proceedings due to the sensitivity of the sexual assault allegations and the potential threats faced by those who have come forward against Diddy.
Carter’s attorney has continued to refute the claims, calling the case a fantasy and expressing confidence in its dismissal. They also accused Buzbee of extorting their client.
