Nigeria’s Minister of State for Industry and the Governor of Niger State have toured the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Dangote Fertiliser Plant in Lagos, describing the facilities as strategic national assets capable of driving industrialisation, strengthening food security and boosting economic growth.
The visit underscored the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting large-scale investments that enhance local production, create employment opportunities and reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imports.
Speaking during the inspection, the minister commended the scale of the integrated refinery and fertiliser complex, noting that the projects represent a significant milestone in Nigeria’s industrial development. He said the facilities demonstrate the country’s growing capacity to compete globally in manufacturing and energy production.
The Niger State governor also praised the investment, describing it as a model for private-sector-led development. He said partnerships between governments and major investors remain crucial to unlocking Nigeria’s economic potential and attracting more investments across key sectors.
The delegation was taken on a tour of the refinery’s processing units and the fertiliser production facilities, where officials received briefings on operations, production capacity and the impact of the projects on the nation’s economy.
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery, regarded as Africa’s largest single-train refinery, is expected to significantly reduce Nigeria’s reliance on imported petroleum products while strengthening energy security. The adjacent fertiliser plant has also emerged as one of the continent’s largest producers of urea, supplying both the domestic and international markets.
The visit comes amid ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to accelerate industrial growth, encourage local value addition and promote investments capable of creating jobs, increasing exports and supporting sustainable economic development.
