A private aircraft conveying David Jimkuta was forced to make an emergency return to Abuja shortly after take-off on Saturday following a technical fault, the senator’s office said.
Jimkuta, who represents Taraba South in the National Assembly, was travelling to Kashimbila Airport when the aircraft reportedly developed the fault minutes into the flight.
According to a statement released by his media office, the pilot quickly detected the problem and made the decision to turn the aircraft back to Abuja as a safety precaution.
“The pilot noticed a technical issue shortly after departure and immediately returned the aircraft to Abuja in line with standard aviation safety procedures,” the statement said.
The senator was said to be on his way to visit constituents in Takum and Wukari as part of his scheduled engagements in the southern part of Taraba State.
No injuries were reported in the incident, and the aircraft landed safely back in the Nigerian capital.
The senator’s office added that Jimkuta remained in good condition and that further travel plans would be communicated once necessary safety checks on the aircraft were completed.
Aviation incidents involving precautionary returns are not uncommon and are often carried out by pilots to ensure passenger safety when even minor technical issues are detected during flight. ✈️
