Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has strongly rejected a reported political alliance between a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), describing the arrangement as fraudulent and politically meaningless.
Speaking in sharp terms, Wike dismissed the deal—reportedly led by PDP factional figure Kabiru Turaki—as a “419,” a local slang used in Nigeria to denote fraud.
The controversy follows claims by a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party led by Kabiru Turaki that it has entered into an alliance with the Allied Peoples Movement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike also used the moment to take aim at the presidential ambition of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, insisting that any such bid emerging from the arrangement would not succeed, describing it as “dead on arrival.”
The remarks underscore deepening internal tensions within Nigeria’s opposition political space, as rival factions position themselves ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.
Neither the PDP faction nor APM has issued an immediate formal response to Wike’s comments.
