INEC Expands Voter Registration in Plateau, Opens 207 New PVC Centres

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced a major expansion of voter registration infrastructure in Plateau State, unveiling a plan to establish 207 new centres for the registration and collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

The commission said the initiative is aimed at widening access to voter registration, particularly for residents in remote and underserved communities, ahead of future elections. It forms part of INEC’s broader strategy to boost civic participation and ensure that more eligible Nigerians are captured in the national voters’ register.

According to INEC, the additional centres will complement existing registration points and help reduce congestion, long travel distances and delays that have previously discouraged prospective voters from registering. The move is also expected to improve efficiency during Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercises across the state.

INEC officials noted that the expansion reflects the commission’s commitment to inclusive and credible elections, stressing that access to voter registration is a critical pillar of democratic participation.

Residents of Plateau State have been urged to take advantage of the new centres once operations commence, while INEC reaffirmed its readiness to work with community leaders, security agencies and other stakeholders to ensure a smooth and transparent registration process.

The development comes as the electoral body intensifies preparations nationwide to strengthen voter confidence and participation in Nigeria’s democratic process.
