The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will begin the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) on Wednesday as preparations intensify for the governorship election scheduled for 15 August.
The exercise is aimed at enabling newly registered voters and those who applied for transfers, replacements or corrections to collect their PVCs ahead of the poll.
INEC said the distribution will take place across the state through its designated local government offices and other approved collection centres, urging eligible voters to collect their cards early to avoid last-minute congestion.
The electoral commission also reminded voters that only those in possession of valid Permanent Voter Cards would be eligible to vote on election day, stressing that no voter would be accredited without the document.
The commencement of PVC distribution marks another key milestone in the commission’s preparations for the governorship election, with political parties and candidates expected to step up campaigns in the coming weeks.
INEC has repeatedly assured voters of its commitment to conducting a free, fair and credible election, while encouraging residents to participate peacefully in the democratic process.
