The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Umar Abdullahi Abubakar of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the Abaji Area Council chairmanship election, following a decisive victory at the polls.
Announcing the results, the electoral body confirmed that Abubakar secured 15,536 votes, defeating his closest rival from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 4,547 votes. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) trailed significantly with 37 votes.
The outcome reflects a commanding lead for the APC candidate, who won by a margin of more than 10,000 votes over the PDP contender, consolidating the party’s dominance in the council.
INEC officials stated that the election was conducted in accordance with established guidelines, with results collated from polling units across the Abaji Area Council before the final declaration.
The victory marks a significant political statement in the Federal Capital Territory’s local governance landscape, as the APC strengthens its foothold at the grassroots level.
Umar Abdullahi Abubakar is expected to be issued a Certificate of Return in line with electoral procedures, paving the way for his inauguration as chairman of the Abaji Area Council.
