Former Benue State Governor, Senator Gabriel Suswam, has firmly denied rumours of his defection to the All Progressives Congress, stating that his political standing makes it impossible for him to abandon his party clandestinely.

Suswam, who currently belongs to the African Democratic Congress, addressed the speculation during a visit to Prof. Saasongo Nongu’s residence in Makurdi, marking his first public response to the circulating reports.

The former governor described any secret party switch as an affront to his political reputation and a betrayal of those who have remained loyal to him.

“I am too big to dump the ADC in secret. Leaving the party quietly would be the height of disgrace to my personality and a betrayal to my loyalists,” Suswam said.

He emphasised his continued dedication to the ADC, expressing determination to strengthen the party’s structures and broaden its appeal throughout Benue State and neighbouring regions.

The gathering attracted numerous ADC faithful and prominent party figures, including Hon. Benjamin Mzondu, who previously represented Makurdi/Guma Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. Several former Peoples Democratic Party members also attended the event.

Suswam called on party supporters to unite behind Mzondu, praising him as a forward-thinking leader with the capacity to champion the ADC’s principles.

Responding to Suswam’s remarks, Mzondu thanked the senator for his guidance and mentorship, pledging unwavering loyalty to both his political mentor and the party.

“Senator Suswam has been a political father to me. His wisdom and leadership have shown me the right path to follow, and I remain loyal to him and the cause of our great party,” Mzondu said.
