Nigerian superstar David Adeleke—better known as Davido—has hit a new gear. Chatting with Eddie Kadi on the Official UK Afrobeats Chart Show, he laid out where he’s been and where he’s headed next.
He’s already ticked the big boxes: packed arenas on every continent and picked up Grammy nods three years running. Those milestones, he says, now free him to make records that sound like home rather than like a playlist aimed at Los Angeles or London.
“The next wave of music is pure Davido, pure African,” he told Kadi. “We’ve done the Western cross-over thing; I’m not chasing that sound any more.”
He also gave South Africa a shout-out, saying most people there know his songs by heart. Years of collabs with SA artists and platinum plaques on the wall back up the claim.
