The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arrested a former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr Bashir Jamoh, in Kaduna State.

Credible sources confirmed that Jamoh was taken into custody by operatives of the anti-corruption agency on Monday. However, the ICPC has yet to disclose the specific allegations leading to his arrest.

Jamoh served as Director-General of NIMASA from 2020 to 2023, a tenure during which the agency intensified efforts to improve maritime security and boost revenue generation within Nigeria’s maritime sector.

The arrest comes amid heightened political speculation in Kaduna State, where Jamoh has been widely rumoured to be nursing ambitions to contest the governorship in the next general elections.

As of the time of filing this report, the ICPC had not issued an official statement clarifying the circumstances surrounding the arrest or indicating whether formal charges would be brought against the former NIMASA chief.

Attempts to obtain comments from Jamoh’s associates proved unsuccessful.
