The Lagos State Government has categorically dismissed viral reports claiming that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been asked to resign due to alleged health concerns, describing the allegations as “fake news.”

In a statement released on Monday, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, debunked the claims, accusing mischief-makers of a deliberate attempt to mislead the public.

“This report is false in its entirety. Nobody has asked the Lagos State Governor to resign. This is another piece of fake news,” Akosile stated.

The spokesperson reassured residents that the Governor is in excellent health and continues to perform his constitutional duties without any hitches.

“Governor Sanwo-Olu remains in good health, of sound mind, and is actively discharging his duties as the Governor of Lagos State,” he added.

Akosile noted that while the state government typically ignores such groundless speculation, a formal response was necessary to prevent public misinformation.

Providing evidence of the Governor’s active schedule, Akosile disclosed that Sanwo-Olu recently hosted Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, who formally notified the Governor of his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election.

According to the statement, the meeting was cordial and aligned with established political traditions. Sanwo-Olu, who is currently serving his second term and is expected to leave office on May 29, 2027, has already endorsed Hamzat as his preferred successor.

The administration urged Lagosians to remain focused and disregard “malicious” reports intended to create unnecessary tension within the state.
