Kano—In a fiery address to supporters, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and the Kwankwasiyya Movement, declared steadfastly that he is “not for sale” amidst growing defections in Kano State ahead of the 2027 elections.

The political landscape in Kano has witnessed escalating tension following the resignation of Governor Abba Yusuf and several local government chairmen, alongside some members of the House of Representatives and aides reportedly moving towards the All Progressives Congress (APC). This wave of defections marks a significant rift between Kwankwaso and his former political protégés.

Speaking at his residence shortly after Governor Yusuf’s resignation, Kwankwaso emphasized that his political journey has always been about the empowerment and emancipation of ordinary Nigerians. “If I were in it for personal gain, I would have taken the easy route and you would be looking for me elsewhere, not in this place,” Kwankwaso said.

He underscored that their movement is anchored in shared ideals rather than material gain. “Our shared vision is what keeps me going. If I were motivated by greed, I would have taken the money and run, and you would not be here showing your support.”

Kwankwaso also called on his supporters to intensify mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections, cautioning against complacency given the current political developments in Kano. “We need people like you who have sacrificed and stood by the truth. You should not relent, because one day we will achieve our objectives,” he urged.

Referring to the unfolding events, he warned, “Going by what is happening in Kano today, we need to start preparing because there are people hell-bent on destroying what we built over time.”

Reaffirming his unwavering principles, Kwankwaso assured that his mission remains focused on fighting for ordinary Nigerians and resisting those who exploit the masses. “I will not compromise with those who exploit the masses,” he declared firmly.

The developments signal a pivotal moment in Kano’s politics as Kwankwaso rallies to consolidate support and maintain the cohesion of his political movement amid growing defections to the APC.
