Officials from the Sokoto State Hisbah Board have successfully intercepted and confiscated over 200 cartons of suspected alcoholic beverages at the Sokoto Central Motor Park.
In a press briefing held at the Hisbah office in Sokoto on Wednesday, State Hisbah Commander Usman Jatau showcased the seized items to journalists. He confirmed that no individuals had come forward to claim the confiscated drinks, and indicated that the Hisbah Board would seek guidance from the State Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General to determine the appropriate next steps regarding the confiscated items.
Commander Jatau took the opportunity to outline the rules and regulations governing residents’ conduct in Sokoto, emphasizing that these guidelines are not intended to target individuals or incite chaos, but rather to serve as foundational principles for daily life in the state.
“Let me appeal to the people to fear Allah (SWT) in all our dealings and to avoid all prohibited activities, such as mingling between males and females. It is important that our dress codes and social interactions align with Islamic law,” Jatau stated.
He further urged residents to refrain from exploiting any location for immoral activities, and to avoid any form of deceit or harm towards fellow Muslims. “All ceremonies, celebrations, and anniversaries must be conducted in accordance with Sharia teachings. The sale or distribution of illicit substances or drugs at public gatherings or events is strictly forbidden,” he added.
The Hisbah Board remains committed to upholding the moral and ethical standards of the community and will continue to take necessary actions to ensure compliance with local regulations.
