Dr. Onyechere Sydney-Jack previously served with distinction as the Head of Women Affairs and Gender Cluster Committee for Nigeria at the African Union Economic and Social Council. As the esteemed host of Gender Agenda, Africa’s premier women’s policy literacy program aired on Africa Independent Television (AIT), she expertly bridges governance institutions with women’s sectors continent-wide, catalyzing empowerment and fostering inclusive decision-making.
Her role as Strategic Advocacy Lead at Human Capital Africa further underscores her global influence in Strategic Communications and its impact towards human capital development. As the distinguished host of Gender Agenda, Africa’s foremost women’s policy literacy program on Africa Independent Television (AIT), she strategically bridges institutional governance and grassroots women’s movements to dismantle barriers and expand women’s influence in decision-making arenas. As Executive Director of Gender Strategy and Advancement International, she spearheads innovative policy interventions recognized worldwide for advancing gender-responsive governance.
Her distinguished accolades include being named among the top 20 Outstanding Youths by WAFA (World Affirmative Action Honors) and featured as one of the 100 Most Influential African Women across Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa. Her groundbreaking work has earned formal commendation from the United States Congressional Women’s Board for Advocacy in Gender and Human Rights.
Dr. Onyechere Sydney-Jack’s academic pedigree is exemplary, with a Bachelor’s degree in English and Broadcasting from London Metropolitan University, a Master’s in International Relations and Diplomacy from the University of Port Novo, and a Doctorate in Gender Studies and Public Policy from the Institute for Humanitarian Studies and Social Development, in collaboration with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR).
As Foreign Affairs Representative for The School of Government and Politics, she drives continental governance reforms alongside luminaries like Dr. Obi-Pax Harry. She is the visionary founder of WEWE Network Africa (We Enabling Women Everywhere), a transformative digital media platform dedicated to capacity building and visibility for women leaders continent-wide. Additionally, as Executive Director of the Yellow Jerrycan Save A Child Foundation, she champions the rights of women and children, pioneering the landmark “Breaking Barriers” initiative to eradicate sexual violence in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps.
Politically, Dr. Onyechere Sydney-Jack broke new ground as the first female candidate to contest the Okigwe State Constituency under the Action Alliance Party in 2019. Following this, she was appointed to the Imo State Transition Committee and served as Special Adviser on Information and Advocacy to former Governor Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha. A passionate cultural advocate, Dr. Onyechere Sydney-Jack’s impactful contributions include roles in award-winning films such as For Amina—recipient of the Nollywood Film Festival Award in Paris and showcased at Afrocannes—and the advocacy film If I Was President. Her illustrious media career includes accolades like Best Television Presenter and Creative Arts at Fresh Acts, London (2004), and the production of critically acclaimed documentaries broadcast on Channel 4 and BEN TV London. She is also an accomplished acrylic artist.
Dr. Onyechere Sydney-Jack is a distinguished and well sought-after moderator and panelist at premier international forums, including the UNDP Legislative Conference, UN Women’s Roundtable on Generation Equality, and the IBB Legacy Dialogue. Overcoming a personal speech impediment, she is a certified speech therapist, two-time Toastmasters International Champion, Sign Language PDF1 certified, and an authority on nonverbal communication. Her expertise has empowered influential figures, including spouses of African presidents, UN youth leaders, and government ministers.
She serves on the boards of leading organizations such as the I Am Nigeria Leadership Forum, Inclusive Skills Initiative, Leadership for Africa, Not Too Young To Run, and the African Young Female Advancement Forum. As Coordinator of the Social Impact Youth Hub, she mentors emerging female leaders aged 15–35, fostering innovation and social change.
Appointed Peace Envoy for East and West Africa by Nigeria’s National Orientation Agency (NOA), Dr. Onyechere Sydney-Jack is a commanding and respected voice on gender and social justice across the region.
