Gunmen have abducted the traditional ruler of Odo-Oriya community in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, southwestern Nigeria, in a late-night attack on his palace, local sources said.
The monarch, Adeniyi Adelana, 60, was kidnapped on Saturday night after heavily armed assailants invaded the royal residence, sparking fresh concerns over the worsening security situation in the state.
Details surrounding the attack remain unclear, and it was not immediately known whether any casualties were recorded during the incident.
The abduction adds to a growing wave of kidnappings targeting prominent figures across Nigeria, despite ongoing security operations aimed at curbing armed violence and criminal activities.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident, while efforts to secure the monarch’s release are expected to be intensified.
