Controversial Kaduna cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has warned Nigerian security agencies against provoking armed groups in Katsina State, following a fragile peace deal reached with residents of Faskari Local Government Area.

In a Facebook post, Gumi cautioned that any offensive against the groups could reignite violence, stressing the need for restraint and education.

“Some people who don’t want peace will provoke them again by attacking them. It’s very important to educate them, as they are being exploited through ignorance and vengeance,” he wrote.

His remarks followed a peace meeting on Sunday in Faskari, where residents, traditional rulers, and wanted bandit leader Ado Alero—alongside dozens of armed herders—were seen in discussions. Footage obtained by SaharaReporters showed participants visibly carrying rifles and ammunition during the talks.
